Possible medieval motte extant in Berwick church yard, identified C Butler's contribution to the ALSF Cuckmere Valley DBA 2008, unpublished. (East Sussex HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Certainly a possible location for a small motte marking a manorial centre, although also a likely position for a pre-historic burial mound. Further investigation by a castle studies specialist would be worthwhile. Not recorded in PastScape. However PastScape does record this as the site of a DMV. The church is C13 but, presumably, had earlier origins.
