Picklecombe New Bulwark was constructed by Sir Richard Grenville to defend the west entrance to Plymouth Sound. It was first constructed in 1545 and is marked on a map of 1586 where it is described as "the new bulwarke at Picklecombe Point" with "three pair of ordnance now placed to defend the landings in Cawsand Bay". New Bulwark is now demolished and was replaced by a battery in 1851 (Cornwall & Scilly HER)
