Gatehouse Comments

It would not be unreasonable to suppose the post-medieval house called Mappowder Court at ST738057 might be a successor to the hunting lodge, which could have been expected to act as the courthouse for the manor and forest. The RCHME state Mappowder Court 'stands on the site of the ancient seat of the Coker family' - however, as Blakemore seems to have been deforested at a fairly early date, it may be the Coker's took over the earlier lodge as their manor house. There do not appear to be any other possible sites in the area.
