Residential manor of the Archbishop of York. Kinoulton village has shifted from it original location, on the Fosse Way, around St Wilfred's church (Now just earthworks at SK66193040). A possible site for the bishops manor would be the moat associated with fishponds described in PastScape as "A small-scale excavation in 1970 revealed low wall footings and an area of pitched stone, along with some late medieval pottery. Aerial photography shows surrounding ridge and furrow and other minor features (Parker)"
