Research has suggested this may be the site of a motte and bailey castle. Fieldwork noted that Lime Copse appears to retain the look of a low motte with a 1.5m high platform still visible. Other earthworks point to this conclusion. The name Bailey Green indicates a possible bailey which is believed to have lain to the west of Lime Copse. The research does not claims to have conclusively discovered a motte and bailey.
