King wrote nothing known of reported castle mentioned by Moore and listed by Harvey as having earthwork remains.

Gatehouse Comments

The whole of Black Country town of Darlaston has been mined and quarried for centuries and has many spoil heaps but no history of a castle. However, there are Darlaston placenames in North Staffordshire near Stone close to Bury Bank and it seems certain that Moore was referring to that supposed Saxon castle rather than anything in the Black Country town. Moore does write the site is 2 miles from Stone and the only real question here is the reason King thought this might refer to the Black Country town.
