Mentioned once by Leland in a list of castle. There are no visible remains or tradition of a castle here. (King)
If Leland was refering to an actual site rather than this simply being an error the most probable location for this would be the site at Upper Bar.
Traditional site of Manor House, on south side of road leading from the Railway Station to the town of Newport where there is a piece of ground which appears to have been surrounded by a deep moat (Jones 1884)
At Upper Bar, south of Newport, is a fragment of a square and broad moat (VCH 1908).
A moat, nearly square, forming by measurement, an area of 60 square yards. Two sides have been filled with rubbish. Probably the site of the Manor House, described in 1471 as being so ruinous as to be worth nothing (SNQ 1896).
The site of the moat is now occupied by private garden (F1 DJC 09-SEP-1975). (PastScape)
