Bond writes scant remains of Earthen ramparts around village by castle

There is no evidence for the 'bank and ditch defences' mentioned by authorities {Hill}. An east-west 'ditch' to the south of the site seems rather to be another hollow way heading towards St Mary's Church. (PastScape ref. Marcus Jecock/07-FEB-1997/RCHME: Stafford Castle Survey)

Gatehouse Comments

The RCHME survey actually cast some doubt on this being the site of a village, let alone a defended one.
