Unlocated castle mentioned in 1195 Pipe roll. 'Domus' of William de Boterells, near Clun, and therefore probably not Mathrafal. (Hogg and King)

Gatehouse Comments

King favours Newcastle (SO244821) although More (SO339914) has also be suggested. In 1195 William de Botterell received ten marks to help pay for the work of fortifying his house. This was, presumably, a payment for some royal service. It should be noted that the various medieval Latin terms that can be translated as 'fortified' can have other translations, particularly resupply.
