The tower at Burradon is described in the 1541 survey as the inheritance of George Fenwycke and Percyvall Lysle which for lack of necessary repairs, has fallen into extreme ruin and decay. (Not listed in the 1415 survey pp 13-19) (Bates).
Its ruins are said to have been still visible about 1850, but the present farm buildings now occupy its site (NT 981062) (Dodds 1940).
The hay barn at NT 98110618 is the traditional site, and topographically it is well suited (F1 ASP 19-FEB-57)
The building at NT 98110618 is modern. There is no trace of the alleged tower and its site is not known (F2 ISS 01-FEB-77). (PastScape)
A large tower at Burradon was reported as being in extreme decay in 1541. Towers did not deteriorate very quickly, even when neglected, so this one must have been at least a hundred years earlier, by one of the Burradon.
Round about 1825 the old house was pulled down and replaced by the mansion which is still with us. It and the new farm buildings covered the tower's site so nothing of the stronghold is visible. (Dodds 1999)
