The large outer bailey of Rougemont Castle is called a burgus enclosure by David King. The castle was in the township of Dunkeswick part of the manor of Harewood. Harewood church and borough was 2km SE on the other side of the River Wharfe. The enclosure is large enough to have contained a hamlet, although the Dunkeswick hamlet actually seems to be at 1km E. There is nothing to suggest either was ever intended to be a borough.
