No evidence of motte in Poston, but at foot of hill on which IA hillfort stands are vestiges of fortified site, prob C13 date. Crowns low spur above Hereford to Peterchurch road & earthworks still prominent feature when viewed from S. Remains consist of scarped raised platform with summit dimensions of 120' x 114' roughly rectangular in plan, on SW side considerably bowed towards field. On N & E sides v wide berm or terrace in slope of largely natural contours of hill. To SW, berm was much narrower with further scarp below & what appeared to be unfinished ditch. Defences across saddle of promontory to NW were extremely vague, thickening of a then existing hedge bank may have represented last traces of rampart. Summit of platform had many irregularities on surface, sinkings & low indeterminate mounds. No trace of stonework. Slight traces of ramp leading to SW corner. Now recently ploughed & field boundaries & many features erased. (Herefordshire SMR ref. Kay, 1967)
