Gatehouse Comments

Overlooks river crossing and road confined to steepside valley. Although isolated from settlement the commanding position makes this a possible castle site of the knight's fee type. SMR and PastScape records castle field name only. Phillips was unable to find earthworks but the natural contours of the site provide much of the defence and the later building may have destroyed whatever slight earthworks such a small castle may have had.
