Burghley's map of 1590 shows a tower at a place called 'Waikek', identified with Waingatehead. Probably a pele or bastle. (PastScape–ref. Perriam and Robinson)

Gatehouse Comments

The word on the map is difficult to read but Perriam and Robinson 'Waikek' seems to be a mistranscription of Brace'hill - a reference to Brackenhill Tower. There is no actual evidence of a C16 building of any sort here.
