                There is a 14th century Pele tower at NY 478787 (Clack and Gosling).
A watercolour of the building, probably executed in the mid-1900s, shows that there is a very strong resemblance to a windmill. It has also been described as a folly. It bears no resemblance to any of the defensive structures common to Cumbria (Perriam and Robinson). (PastScape)
