Gatehouse expects this was a reference to the Saxon palace of the Mercian kings recorded in historical records and is, therefore, rejected, for the purpose of this database, on the bases of of being outside the date range 1000-1600CE. The exact location of the Mercian palace is unknown but likely to be near the parish church at given map reference and, given the usually continuity of reuse of high status sites, probably the site now occupied by Winslow Hall, although the curve of Horn Street might suggest the palace and church shared an enclosure.
