Llangynllo (Penbeili-mawr). 'Formerly called Pen y Beili Bedw, on account of a tumulus near it' (Meyrick, p. 201). This strongly suggests a castle-mound, but nothing is marked on the map, nor is anything known of such a mound at the farm. (King 1956)

Uncertain as to whether this record refers to the "beili" place name or a mound at this location. Beili is likely to refer to a "farmyard" in this context. RPS October 2001 (Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Does not seem to be mentioned in any of King's later surveys of castles. Possible site of a mound symbolising the knightly status of a medieval tenant of this farm.
