Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of ? medieval castle reads 'Name suggestive of a defended site. Field now under permanent pasture with no physical feature indicating archaeological site (CPAT site visit 1978). Name may refer to overlooking enclosure PAR 969.'

Gatehouse Comments

Name meaning 'meadow of the castle' strongly suggests this was a site associated with a castle rather than the site of a castle. This might relate to the Newton Hall motte although it was a field belonging to Castell y Dail (Castle of the Leaves) farm so may just relate to that farm's name which is possible derived from a mound.
