OS records, citing an authority of 1910, place a 'British or Roman tower' at this location. The edifice appears to have vanished by 1910, the authority indicating its former situation and quoting old people. As this record may still have currency, it should be stated that no medieval tower or other fortification is recorded at Llantwit Major, and that a windmill formerly stood near the site in question.
