The 6-inch Ordnance Survey sheet shows the present mansion of Stanage Park as standing upon ‘the site of Stanage Castle,’ but no suggestion lias ever been advanced that the present residence occupies an ancient site, and the original Stanage Castle must have been the mount-and-bailey on the banks of the Teme (No. 610). (RCAHMW 1913)
