A greatly mutilated motte and bailey, resting on steep rivurine scarps to the W, where the motte (?c.38m in diameter) appears to have been almost entirely robbed, leaving traces of its ditch and counterscarp, c.67-72m in diameter. The area of the bailey (c.70m square) to the NE is occupied by buildings belonging to Bryn Derwen. (Coflein)
A much mutilated motte and bailey, situated on the east bank of the River Severn. The motte is completely destroyed, with its position marked by a hollow. The only remaining bank of the bailey goes across the northeast end of the site. The site consists of one main bank running around from northeast to southeast. The bank above the natural slopes on the west, measures 65.0m long, is 6.0 to 10.0m wide and up to 18.0m high. The bank on the north side encloses a slight hollow 1.0m below the outside ground level, which is thought to be the last remnant of the motte, but only its southern bank remains. South of the motte area is a bank or steepened slope, but it is difficult to determine whether this is part of the motte and bailey (Cadw 1998). Earthworks relating to former Motte and Bailey. (Thomas D, 1998b). (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER)
