Marked on old OS map as 'Wallston Castle, remains of' this designation was wrongly accepted, and Wallston was identified as the medieval Wenvoe Castle on the basis of the location of that castle given by Leland. It is now believed that the location was distorted and that Wenvoe Castle lies 2km south. Wallston was an Elizabethan house pertaining to a large freehold but was never called a castle. (Spurgeon)

Leland in c1536 described the ruined medieval castle of Wenvoe, and his topographical detail suggested that it stood on the site of the former Tudor house at Wallston (PRN 3545s) sited to the north-west of the village. No evidence has been found to substantial this claim. (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)
