A largely ploughed-out circular ring bank measuring about 46m in diameter, surrounding a modern barn, barely visible on the SW and SE as a scarp no more than 0.1m high. This largely ploughed out castle ringwork was sought out and discovered during fieldwork (for the Glamorgan Inventory) in a predictable position. A castle was expected here because Llandow was the only Glamorgan knight's fee predating 1135 for which there was no known castle or manorial centre of any date. Finds confirm C12 and C13 occupation. The earthwork is located on level ground, slightly elevated above the village and surrounding area, but enjoys no natural defence. Traces of walling uncovered by ploughing represented the W angle of a well-mortared building of late C13 or early C14 date overlying rubbish deposits yielding C12 pottery sherds. (Derived from Coflein)

The monument comprises the remains of a castle-ringwork which dates to the early part of the medieval period (c. AD 1066 - 1485). Remains include a defensive ditch and a masonry building of the late 13th- early 14th centuries. There are references to Llandow in the Liber Niger, the Liber Rubens and the Extent of 1262. Artefactual material recoverd from excavation have indicated earlier activity of 12th century date. (Scheduling Report)
