Now demolished, was mainly a late C19 building in plain Classical style, with rendered walls & plaster details. It incorporated part of an earlier house (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

The house was given possible medieval origin as possible castle by the welsh scholar and forger Edward Williams (Iolo Morgannwg). It is uncertain if the supposed medieval origin is not actually the mound at Cottrell (ST081745) or a later medieval building on the site or included in the manor house. The actual manor house was demolished 30 years ago but did incorporate C16 fabric reasonably attributed to Rice Merrick.
