1. A moated site measuring some 50m across within which lay the reamins of a building excavated in the 1930s. On the Sw are the remains of a second moat.

2. A rectangular, moated enclosure, c.58m NE-SW by 54m. Excavation in 1931 indicated a multiphase moated mansion, focussed on the N quadrant.

A possible fishpond, c.86m by 18m is aligned with the SW arm of the moat and earthworks on the NE may indicate the presence of a formal garden.

Finds indicate a l.13th-e.14th c. occupation. (Coflein)

Possibly the site of the fortified house of Eadwine of Tegeingl noted in Domesday Book. Excavations revealed large stone house within moated enclosure surrounded by rampart. (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER)

The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead. The moated area of Llys Edwin measures 58m north-east to south-west by 54m. In 1931 excavation indicated a multiphase moated house, focussed on the northern quadrant. A possible fishpond, c86m by 18m is aligned with the south-west arm of the moat, and earthworks in the north-east may indicate the presence of a formal garden. Finds indicate late thirteenth to early fourteenth century occupation. (Scheduling Report)

Gatehouse Comments

It is suggested that this may be the site of the fortified house of Eadwine of Tegeingl (Wolcott) noted in the Domesday Book.
