A doubtful site. Medieval pottery and stonework have been found at this site. (King and Hogg)

Built in 1615, Rebuilt 1915. The present structure is mostly of early C20 date although extensive cellars supposedly exist and have now been sealed up. A five-storey tower used to be used as a watchtower overlooking the Towy but has now been demolished. (Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Was the site of a modest country estate of C17 date. Does the castle name come from an earlier medieval house on the site or a is a reference to the architectural style of a later, but now lost, house. The fact the name is the english 'castle' rather than the welsh 'castell' may suggest the later.
