A ditched subrectangular mound, formed from the summit of an abrupt ridge above the Teifi gorge, thought to represent a medieval castle motte: the mound, its summit about 20m NNW-SSE by at least 28m, rises up to 9.0m above steep natural scarps on the north, defined elsewhere by a 3.0m wide ditch, obscured by the churchyard to the west: cists containing burials were encountered during the construction of the mausoleum set over the western part of the mound area. (Coflein)

Motte situated to the east of St. Llwni's church. Still standing to a height of about 30 feet, although badly mutilated on its western side by the extension of the church graveyard. Heavily overgrown with trees and bracken. (Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Motte perched above gorge, close to medieval church (on early Christian burial site) and overlooking river crossing.
