Gatehouse Comments

The origin of the Castle Hill name is not known but is obviously not the site of a medieval castle. Was it the location of a C18 folly given the fad for these in this area, most notable at Wentworth Castle? The farm possible takes name from hill. The site at Brierly Rein, mentioned by Sneyd and now almost entirely lost to ploughing, was a homestead moat (PastScape 56034) of a sort not normally recorded in Gatehouse.
