A castle is said to have stood on the site now occupied by 'Wragg Castle', a C17 house which may have been constructed from its ruins (OS record).

Earthworks are shown on the LIDAR . Cotwold Edge LIDAR Project. (Gloucestershire HER)

Gatehouse Comments

What was the form of the earthworks shown on LIDAR? This could well be the centre of a small medieval sub-manor but the form of the manorial centre is unknown. Gatehouse has not identified a possible manorial centre or family. A small timber castle (motte or ringwork) or a moat is not impossible but is tenurial unlikely - it may be that, if the original name was 'Ragged Castle', the name was an ironic reference to a run down or ruinous house.
