a small circular remain, near Lyme in Dorsetshire, whose diameter within, is only about 14 feet, and whose walls are near 5 feet thick. (King 1804)

Gatehouse Comments

Described by King as a 'British Keep Tower' and compared to Saffron Walden Castle. It is illustrated as a ruin of rubble masonry construction but with no identifiable architectural features. What this feature was is obscure but a similar 'tower' mentioned in the same piece (near Biddeford may have been a windmill. Whatever it was it is most unlikely to have been a medieval castle. Gatehouse has been unable to locate this site.
