Small mound close to chapel which is surmounted by building. Upper part of which is used as pigeon house. May be tumulus or from situation, more probably a small castle mound (1863, Arch. Camb.). Oval shaped mound much reduced and spread by ploughing 19m diam NNE-SSW by 12m trans max height 0.4m. Would seem to have been too small for motte and no local knowledge of building. Gatehouse Comments

There seems to be some contradiction in the 1863 description and field investigators comments of 1972, although 110 years is long enough for a building to both be demolished and forgotten. The location and description is not unlike that of a number of small mounds that may be mainly symbolic markers of the knightly status of tenant farmers. However, the lack of remains and the tendency in this area to describe any mound as a 'motte' must make this a questionable site.
