In Clark's list of moated mounds or burhs, for Yorkshire, is recorded 'Swarth Howe.'

Gatehouse Comments

This is a Bronze Age barrow, which had been excavated and a cyst burial found, in the 1850's. This excavation was published so why Clark felt this mound, isolated from medieval settlement and on a moor, might be a residential location is an open question although Clark was in the data collection stage of a very new field of archaeology. Gatehouse suspects he was getting information from correspondents who may not have really appreciated what Clark meant by a 'moated mound'.
