North Yorkshire HER record for Ridge and Furrow and other earthworks 100m SW from Aiskew Grange reads "1838 map divides this area into 2, southern 'Mickelbrack' and northern 'Brass close'. Rumor of a castle located at the back of Aiskew in this field. Most of the earthworks were complete until 1945 or 1971. There are several other fields located near Middlebrack Farm with the same name." Nothing obvious on air photo or map. Isolated from significant modern settlement. PastScape record 52364 reports "(SE 281913). Mounds and trenches in which large quantities of human bones, fragments of armour, spurs etc were found during drainage work, are in Leases Hall park. They are supposed to be relics of the battle of Northallerton (SE 29 NE 2) but this took place elsewhere (about 6 miles to the north east). Some of the trenches were once known as "Scots Pits" in allusion to the Scots killed in the battle."
