A small fosse, "the site of the ancient castle of the Entons", is in Enton's Coppice about 1/4 mile west of Capel Street. O.S. 1" 1806-10 names Ewekene's Farm as Ewtons's Farm, therefore Ewekene's Copse is probably Enton's Coppice as it is the required distance from Capel Street. (PastScape ref. Brayley)

A perambulation of Ewekene's Copse revealed nothing more than a complex of woodland boundary banks and ditches. A trench cut the length of the copse by S.E. Electricity Board engineers revealed nothing of interest (F1 ASP 19-NOV-65). (PastScape)

A complex of boundary banks and ditches in Enton's Coppice, near Capel Street (alleged Castle earthwork). (SHHER)

Gatehouse Comments

Clearly not a castle site. Enton is place in Surrey but not apparently a family name.
