Renn records a siege work (a mound) at Marston in Warwickshire 400 yards from the castle.

Gatehouse Comments

Presumably the castle is Butlers Marston Round Hill and Renn's supposed siege work is 'The Bank' a mound recorded in PastScape as a possible early mill-mound. Butlers Marston Round Hill may have been the site a a modest manor house but is doubtful as a castle and even if it was a small motte and bailey it would not have been able to house a garrison of a size where the expense of mounting a siege would be needed. As far as Gatehouse is aware no siege is record as taking place here. The Bank, Butlers Marston; ".. is circular and rises somewhat abruptly from the surrounding ground and there is no sign of any subsidiary bank. It is suggested that this is an early mill mound...." It does not give the impression of being a tumulus. (PastScape ref. Chatwin))
