Original village was in outer bailey of Castle Camps castle Said to have moved after Black Death to current position.

Earthworks of part of the original village, adjacent to but outside the defences is a separately scheduled area National Heritage Number 1006894. This has area has been on the Heritage at Risk Register. The area of the village within the defences embankments, which includes the village church, is included in the scheduled area of the castle.
