Has been dubiously ascribed as a castle. (Higham 1988)

This is a mound 1.5m high 18m diameter, the centre of which has been cut out it is surrounded by a raised platform with a low bank forming its perimeter. In its present mutilated state it is impossible to determine whether this was either a bowl or bell barrow. A circular mound up to 2m high and 12m diam. No surrounding ditch, but a platform with a low bank on the perimeter. Adjoining field boundaries give impression of outer enclosure. Unrecorded rough digging on the site revealed coarse stonework, mortar and brick, and thus a post-medieval date is suggested. Dubiously a castle. (Devon and Dartmoor HER ref Higham 1979)

This mutilated earthwork remains of either a bowl barrow or a bell barrow. A mound with its centre dug out is surrounded by a raised platform with a low bank on its perimeter. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

A mutilated earthwork, on a, now wooded, hilltop isolated from settlement. This is clearly not a medieval castle.
