Gatehouse Comments

Castle Hill occurs as a place-name on early OS maps, and as a current road-name, but not as the site of an antiquity. Nothing is recorded in PastScape. The tenurial history is not inconsistent with this being the site of a small timber castle but the likelihood may be that this was just the site of the manorial court. Gibson's given map reference can only be an approximation. There does seem to be a slight circular feature at SD62460485 which seems to be near to the hill top but the area is much built over and was an area of much mining activity.
