A mound believed by A D Passmore to be the remains of a round barrow although standing upon a clay subsoil. He hopes to excavate it (OS record 1942).
Cathcart King notes a vanished castle called Burtuna, possibly this Burton, and notes earthworks at Burton which may be evidence for it (King 1983). (PastScape)
The proposed as Stephanic castle of Burtuna attacked in 1147 is variously identified as Black Bourton, Oxon (SP286042) and as Purton, Wilts (SU096872) or Burton Grove Farm, Wilts ( SU191891). All sites are near Cricklade, with which this castle is associated.
