During the Tudor period, Dunwich had defensive entrenchments. Although provided with seven pieces of ordnance in 1569, a survey of 1586 found that the guns had been neglected and not even been mounted. Even in C17, a survey showed Dunwich to possess two unusable guns. (PastScape)
