There may have been a castle at Great Wytheford, which was licenced in 1327. (PastScape ref. King 1983)

Gatehouse Comments

Exact site unknown. Sir Alan Charlton obtained a licence to crenellate in 1327. Knaves Castle is a place-name in Shawbury parish but the most likely location for the 1327 house must be under Wytheford Hall Farm which is a C19 building possible incorporating an earlier core.
