Aston Hall (Site of) - present house by John Carr c.1772, now Aston Court Hospital. Replacing medieval structure with hall block between two towers. (South Yorkshire SMR)

Sir Wm. de Melton built a new hall there in the years between 1317 and 1342, while he was yet Archbishop of York. After 1547, the Hall came into the possession of the D'Arcys (through the female side of the Meltons) who held the estate for about two centuries. In the middle of the eighteenth century the old hall was destroyed by fire and the present house was built. (Layne)
