Old Hall Farmhouse, rear and left end walls c40 inches thick and clearly represent the remains of a bastle house. They contain large irregular boulders and much galleting (Grundy 1987).

Solitary form bastle, walls 1m thick. Present state - house (Ryder 1990).

No distinctive bastle features found after short external examination. The four angle quoins are all later 18th century (Ryder 1990).

Old Hall Farm; the front is coursed, roughly-dressed stone with ashlar dressings; the rear is random rubble; Welsh slate roof. From the front the house is a standard two-storey, three-bay house with a boarded door and renewed sash windows, all in original openings. The door has a slightly chamfered surround and the façade is nicely proportioned. The rear and left end walls however, are about 40 inches thick and clearly represent the remains of a bastle house. They contain large irregular boulders and much galleting (Grundy 1987). (Northumberland HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Are the two reports by Ryder both dated 1990 actually for the same building?
