Old records note that there was a bastle at Stannersburn, but any trace of it has vanished. A resident of the village has a very old picture which shows ruins of a building on a bank at its west end. This could have been the bastle, but there is no way of knowing since the ruins were removed circa 1900. (PastScape ref. Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

In this area it is entirely likely there was a small, pele-house type, bastle here in the C17.
