Alleged site of bastle at Leapish farm, a few hundred yards from the farmhouse, and believed to be submerged by Kielder Water. (PastScape ref. Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

Dodds source for suggesting a bastle 'a few hundred yards from the {Leapish} farmhouse' is obscure. No building is marked on the 1st edn OS map, surveyed in 1862 before the formation of Kielder Water, in the area north and east of Leapish until the hamlet of Mounces is reached at NY661881. This settlement is now underwater but there is nothing to suggest bastles there, other than this being an area where any C17 farmstead may well have be a pele-house type bastle.
