King writes Skipton was a possible burgus enclosure of the castle.

Gatehouse Comments

King uses the term 'possible' for doubtful sites. There seems to be little evidence, archaeological, documentary, topographical or place-name for defences. There is a short, 50m long, section of sizeable ditch and bank just south of the castl at SD99195189 which may be a putative town ditch, an outer bailey to the castle or something else. If this continued southward to the Waller Hill Beck it, and natural waterways, would enclose the town. Map reference for parish church.
