Described as 'ruins of a castle' in an article called 'The Fortress Salient in the River Wye around King's Caple' in the Woolhope Club Transactions. No further information is presently available. (Shoesmith)

Gatehouse Comments

'The Castle' is marked on the OS map at this location but not as an antiquity. Castle Cottage is a late C17 Grade II listed house at this location but nothing about that house would suggest the name came from anything other than it being built on a field belonging to the castlery of Capel Tump.
