The earthwork and buried remains of a bowl barrow situated on level ground immediately south of the A4113. Barrow consists of an earthen mound, circular in form, circa 20m in diameter and 1.2m high. Surrounding quarry ditch, which is no longer visible having been completely infilled. The mound has a slightly flattened top possibly due to archaeological excavation in 1736, when an urn containing human bone was found.(PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

This site has been considered by some writers to be a castle but is rejected as such by Hogg and King and is considered to be a round barrow by Shoesmith.
