Possible castle sites with earthwork extant, no documentation. Brimpsfield, SO 93481054. Uncertain whether round barrow, quarry dump or attempt at motte. (Rawes ref. O'Neil and Grinsell))

Shapeless: probably the upcast from neighbouring quarries (O'Neil and Grinsell)

Two shapeless mounds situated at SO93431053 and SO93481054 and measuring 20 paces in diameter by 6 ft high and 30 paces in diameter by 15 ft high respectively; thought to be probably the upcast from neighbouring quarries (O'Neil and Grinsell).

Both mounds are of quarry waste from large pits not shown on OS 6" or 25" scales (F1 NVQ 09-MAY-72).

Gatehouse Comments

Quarry is marked on 1894 OS map but one of the mounds is marked 'Tumulus'. Site isolated from settlement and not in a strategic position. Can be rejected with the only question being as to what reason anyone would have though this was even an attempt at a motte.
