Foundations of a building on the top of Castle How - suggested as a 'crag-castle'. (PastScape)

There are stone foundations on a large natural outcrop, including a rectangular building. Overgrown and little remains, according to Crawford and George (Lake District HER)

Rejected by Jackson. An impressive crag which could get the castle name purely from it natural appearance. Would certainly dominate a pass, but would be a most difficult residence and is not characteristic of medieval fortifications. Presumably an Iron Age site and supposed foundations are drystone walls.
